AARP “Grandparents Raising Grandchildren”

In today’s society, AARP recognized that many grandparents are raising grandchildren for a wide variety of reasons. The trend was prevalent enough that AARP established the “AARP Grandparent Information Center” (CIG). With many military members, especially Reserve and National Guard members deployed away from home, and sometimes both parents or a single parent gone from home, parents of these deployed military members have assumed responsibility for raising their grandchildren.

AAPR is promoting its grandparent services and information to these parents of military members who have assumed the primary childcare responsibility in place of the parents. If VFW and Ladies Auxiliary members are either raising grandchildren or know grandparents who are raising their grandchildren, AARP has much information to share:

  • AARP’s web page for grandparents: www.aarp.org/grandparents

  • AARP Grandparent Information Center (GIC) at 610 E Street, Washington, DC  20049, Email: gic@aarp.org

  • AARP’s newsletter for grandparents raising grandchildren “The GIC Voice”. The newsletter is filled with valuable information for these grandparents. To subscribe, visit the AARP website and search for GIC or you can type the following address to go direct to:
