VFW is committed to providing moral and financial support to military service members worldwide and their families at home. VFW's Military Assistance Program (MAP) is a quality of life initiative that focuses on easing financial emergencies of deploying service members and supporting them and their family through the hardships of deployment.

MAP provides numerous programs under this quality of life initiative. In addition, VFW has forged partnership with various service providers to care for the men and women of the U.S. armed forces. From financial assistance to relocation and career assistance, MAP’s primary concern is the uniformed men and women deployed worldwide and their families left behind.

VFW-sponsored Military Assistance programs include "Adopt-a-Unit", Department of Nevada Family Support Centers located in Las Vegas and Reno, "Operation Uplink" phone cards, and "Unmet Needs" emergency financial aid.

Partnership programs include AARP's “Grandparent Info Center”, ABA's Standing Committee on “Legal Assistance for Military Personnel” (LAMP), America’s Second Harvest “National Guard Food Assistance”, March of Dimes' “Mission: Healthy Baby”, National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies' (NACCRRA) “Operation Military Child Care”, and Vetjobs.com “Online Employment Assistance”.
